History

You can find the origin of the name Joy Riders in the year 1980 during the annual Tijl 4 party of that time in Dessel. After a few beers to much, a couple of tough guys from Dessel got the idea to do something silly, racing around in a Mini Cooper. The law of justice, lets call him Chief X of Dessel saw it all happen, and he did n t like what he saw so he set off in pursuit. After a reckless wild west ride across Dessel they finally got stopped by Chief X and the party ended at the police station. By the announcement in the newspapers the other day: Joy riders arrested in Dessel the name Joy Riders was born, with special thanks to Chief X of Dessel. A Mini Cooper cant stay interesting and after they all bought a rattling Gilet the first Old Timer club of Dessel was established and so the M.C. of 1981 was a fact.
An M.C. of course needs a place where you can drink beers and so, very suitable, we started at pub WELCOME.
2 years later (1983) the whole lot moved to pub T STAMINEEKE, the local football club was also settled in this pub. And because some of our members played football also, this was killing two birds with a stone.
9 years later this pub closed his doors for good. That s why we are pub DE FROG and pub DE BRASSERIE still very thankful for quenching our thirst for a couple of years.
After this we thought that it was time to take care of ourselves and after a year of hard work and slave, an old pig stable at t Zandvliet in Dessel got rebuild to a new pigs clubroom.
Our room opened its doors in 1999 and here we are nowadays still active, where every Sunday still everyone is welcome to take a fresh beer.
